Wrap-Up | August 2019

CUPCAKE (5) It’s the start of a new month and that means reflecting on reading and starting a new TBR! Today I wanted to talk about what I read in August, even if it was only a few books!

August was a slower reading month for me because of a couple things; we moved, I went back to school, and I was in a little bit of a slump. Basically I was just ridiculously busy last month and I hardly had time to sleep, let alone read. When I did have time to read, I just wasn’t loving what I was reading. I turned myself around a little, it was just a very up and down reading month for me.

I only read three books last month and ended up DNFing one as well, but I’m hopeful that this month will be better! I already have my TBR planned which I’ll share in the next coming days, so stay tuned for that!

314545321. The Story of Us

This was a book I received from Forever Publishing and was the book I ended up not finishing this month. It wasn’t that it was a bad book, it just wasn’t for me. It was really intense and emotional and that isn’t my thing. I want lighter romance when I read contemporary, so I just wasn’t enjoying it and had to put it down.

Also, I felt that there was a lot of unnecessary cursing. I don’t mind swearing in novels, I actually feel its more authentic if there is a few curse words, but the dialogue in this was completely bogged with curse words. It was just too much.

171671662. Crown of Midnight

I finally jumped back into this series last month after a nearly two year hiatus! I didn’t like the first installment of this series very much but I did enjoy this one much, much more! I love Maas and I cannot wait for her newer books to be released, but sometimes you just need a fix and have to pick up her older works.

I plan to continue this series, although I can’t guarantee I’ll be finished soon! But, this one really redeemed the series for me so I’m excited to read the others!

39555142._SY475_3. Birthday Girl

My second book I finished last month, Birthday Girl was purely an enjoyment read and I used it to distract me from the fact that August was the busiest, craziest month of the year for me. I love love love Penelope Douglas and her books never fail to make me smile.

This one was a lot less dark than her other novels, so I’d recommend this for those who are just starting out with her or New Adult. But, this was the perfect end of Summer read! It was light and full of sexual tension, just what I wanted!

331435254. Little Comfort

My last read of the month (that I actually finished on September 1st but I’m counting it for August, sue me) was a partner copy! I received this novel from Kensington Publishing in exchange for an honest review! I haven’t published my review yet, but this novel was such a stunning debut!

It was a really well-written and intricate mystery that had so many moments I didn’t see coming. Check my full review when I publish it later this week for my full thoughts and a discussion on some of the darker themes of this novel!

Like I said, it was a slower month for me. While I only read three books last month I’m not upset about it because I did end up finishing my August TBR, which is my monthly goal anyway!

I’m all caught up on partner copies, too, which is a beautiful thing! I was always like 3 books behind when it came to my review copies so I’m happy I’m finally caught up and can transition into reading some new releases and older TBR novels.

Did you all meet your August TBR goal? What did you love last month?

Happy reading
