Today I’m sharing some information about an upcoming release for Talem Press, The Ninth Sorceress by Bonnie Wynne!
Talem reached out to me a few months back and asked if I wanted to join their blog tour to talk about one of their upcoming fantasy releases, and I jumped on the offer! I didn’t take on the ARC because I knew I would be busy this month, but I wanted to help them spread the word about this new novel. So, today I’ll be sharing some moodboards for the main characters in the story!
I’ve never done a mood board for my blog before but I’ve always loved the idea. I think moodboards are such a great way to enhance a story and for the author and reader to connect. It’s almost like getting a direct look into what the author was envisioning when they were crafting their novel.
In the blackest dungeon of the Clockwork City, a prisoner lies bound in silver shackles. Who is she? And why are the wizards so afraid of her?
Seventeen-year-old Gwyn has no family and no past. Apprenticed to a half-mad herbalist, she travels the snow-blasted High Country, hawking potions in a peddler’s wagon. Her guardian hides her from the world like a dark secret, and she knows better than to push for answers.
But when she discovers she is hunted by the goddess Beheret, Gwyn is drawn into a deep and ancient tale: of chained gods and lost magic, of truths long buried and the rising of a war she never could have imagined.
Wizards and their magic-sniffing hounds pursue her – as does a stranger in a smiling mask, who calls her by an unfamiliar name…
But what really terrify her are the dangerous gifts she’s spent her life suppressing. Now, Gwyn must step out of the shadows and take charge of her destiny – even if the price is her own soul.
The Ninth Sorceress is the breathtaking first instalment of The Price of Magic, a sweeping fantasy saga full of rich storytelling and tangible magic.

Meet Gwyn. At seventeen, she knows how to poultice a wound, pull teeth, and read your fortune in the cards. She’ll be a herbalist one day, just like her guardian, Ascepis. But whenever strangers come to the wagon, Ascepis hurries her inside. ‘Don’t be seen’ is the law that governs her life. Overprotectiveness? Or something more?
Lucian Iyengar was born in Jhabahabi, in the Tanglewood. Outsiders have tried to venture there, but none have returned. What lies beyond that wall of trees? Lucian could tell you, but he won’t. He was exiled years ago. He rarely speaks of his old life. But at night, he takes out his falcifer and plays the songs of his homeland…
Welcome to Nederlund – the sleepy jarldom Gwyn calls home. Nederlunders are simple, salt-of-the-earth folk. They do things the way they’ve always been done. They pray to the local agricultural spirits, and tie prayer kites to their fences on feast days. But Nederlund has a dark side: a history of witch-burnings, and a deep suspicion of anything connected with magic…
