Wrap-Up | August 2020

Hey

Happy almost September! I have to admit, I’m a little sad writing this post because August didn’t go the way I had hoped it would, reading wise, anyway.

I had a fantastic month in July and got to read so many great books, and I was hoping I could carry that momentum into August…. but that didn’t work out. I only ended up reading three books this month, but two of them were on my monthly TBR so I guess that was a win!

Honestly, I started my job last month and I haven’t had much reading time, or energy for that matter. I work some strange hours for the most part, so I get home really tired and just wanting to veg out in front of the TV. I need to make more time for reading, so that’ll be a big goal for September.

For now, let’s talk about my August reads!

1) His & Hers

4 Stars

My first read of the month was my ARC of His & Hers, the newest thriller from Alice Feeney. I got this as an audiobook through NetGalley and while I really enjoyed the book, the format and the NetGalley app were not my friend, for sure. This was such a dark and gritty and twisty read, I was completely absorbed and fully invested in this one. I will say this mystery is not for the faint of heart and is definitely for mature readers. This would be a perfect Fall read, too! Very creepy, very unsettling, very dark.

2) Crocodile on the Sandbank

4 Stars

My second read of the month is this old gem from a literal queen of literature, Crocodile on the Sandbank. If you know me then you know I love Egyptian settings with mystery, romance, and mummies. Well, this book has it all! This was very slow to start (honestly I wanted to DNF around page 80, but I stuck it out) but the ending, the writing, and the characters really kept me in it! Now, this did have some problems unrelated to the pacing, so I made sure to talk about those in my review.

You can read more about it here!

3) The Highlander Takes a Bride

3 Stars

My final read of the month is this highlander historical romance from Lynsay Sands, The Highlander Takes a Bride. I bought a copy of this at a local used bookstore and I was really excited for it! I love highlander romances, I love an alpha hero, and it was my first Lynsay Sands novel. Buuuuuuut, this book had some…. problems for me. I actually listened to this on audio (I needed something to listen to on my lunch breaks) and while I enjoyed parts of it (the narration, the mystery, the characters) there were just some things I really couldn’t get behind.

I’m working on my full review now, check back on Friday! Trust me, this is one review you won’t want to miss!

Line

Well, that was short and sweet!

Three books isn’t all bad, I suppose. But, when I go from reading 8+ in one month and then struggle to even finish two the next month, it’s a little disheartening.

I’m planning on keeping my September TBR short and sweet, as well. I have a group read (which will be a reread for me) and then I’m planning a new release and the book I’m finishing at the moment, so that may be it.

Did you have a good reading month? Did you get to finish your planned TBR? Tell me everything!
