We’re officially halfway through October and I’m amazed by how fast this month is flying by! I’ve only finished two books so far and I was hoping to get at least one backlisted ARC read for this month, but I ended up DNF’ing one, which I’ll talk about a little more here.
My last update was in August, I believe, and I’m happy to say that my rating has improved since last time! I did get some new additions to my NetGalley shelf, however, but that’s fine by me because I already have a plan as to when I’ll read them.
My idea origianlly was to try and audiobook some of my older ARCs if I could, and then randomly space out the others just so I can knock some off my shelf. I currently only have 5 ARCs on my NetGalley shelf total (which doesn’t sound like a lot, I know) but most are from the first three months of 2020, so they’re pretty old, which is what really bugs me more than anything.

One of my two new ARCs is from my wonderful friends at Forever! Forever With You is a novel from debut author Barb Curtis and and is the first in her contemporary romance series, Sapphire Springs. The cover really drew me in (its adorable, obviously), I love a good contemporary romance, and I really liked the winery/restaurant aspect of the plot. It sounds really good, has had some great reviews already, and I’m just excited to dip into another contemporary series from Forever since Sweetwater Springs is ending. I’m planning on reading this one next month around release day!

I. Am. So. Excited. For. This! If you don’t know, Karen Schaler is the genius behind the the Christmas Prince trilogy on Netflix (which I’ve personally seen at least 50 times through and I LOVE it) and I knew immediately I had to snag a copy of this book, ARC or not. This sounds so freaking good and it has some really great reviews on Goodreads and from my Instagram friends. I love love love seasonal reads like this and I know it came out in September, but I’ll be reading this in December to help get me in the Holiday spirit!

I requested this one a week or so ago and haven’t heard back yet, but this will be Christina McDonald’s third novel. The premise sounds really good and almost reminds me of a plot of a Lifetime movie (my favorite) and I’m interested to see what else this author comes up with. I really loved her debut novel, The Night Olivia Fell, and unfortunately didn’t connect with her second novel, Behind Every Lie, but I’m willing to give her another try!
Recent ARC Reviews
- Mermaid Inn – LOVED this one! It was so fun, especially the audio!
- His & Hers – Super creepy, twisty, and dark. A great mystery/thriller from start to finish.
- A Death Long Overdue – Absolutely love this cozy series! A great addition to this long standing favorite of mine.
- Behind Every Lie – I actually ended up DNF’ing this. It didn’t have the same emotional pull for me as I wanted, and I didn’t think the characters were realistic or even likeable. Not for me.
A big update this time around!
I’m not planning on requesting anything for a while (there’s nothing really coming out that I want desperately) so for now I’m going to focus on getting those three off my backlist, reading the two upcoming ones, and being on the lookout for any great ARCs being offered!
I know a lot of people are participating in ARCtober, and I thought about doing it myself, but I decided against it. I have so many on my physical TBR as well that I really want to focus on for the rest of the year. I have a book buying ban in place for myself and I’m thinking I’ll carry that for the rest of 2020, but we’ll see!
